Songshan is well known for its rich Buddhist culture. Fawangsi temple, built in Eastern Han Dynasty, is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in China.

Songshan is well known as a Taoist place. Zhongyuanmiao temple, originally called as Taishici temple and first built during Qin Dynasty,is well known for its magnificent buildings.

Songshan has witnessed significant effects of Confucianism, which is rarely seen in the history of famous mountains in China.
