Songyang Movement

Songyang Movement is one of the three largest tectonic movements of global topography and an important formation stage of Songshan. Songyang Movement is a global tectonic movement having happened 2.5 billion years ago and the movement was named by Academician Zhang Bosheng at Southern slope of Songshan in 1951. The geological stratum of Songyang is the dividing line of time immemoria and ancient times; the lower stratum, Dengfeng group, is sedimentary stratum of time immemoria and the upper stratum, Songshan group is sedimentary stratum of ancient times.
From the division stratum, the density of the crustal movement of time immemoria could be learnt. In the movement, green granite rocks of Dengfeng had been transformed due to internal pressure and an ancient continental stratum had been resulted in, including altitude stratum, multi-epoch stratum and three-epoch stratum. The movement signifies an important geological event during the early evolution of the Earth.
Songshan stratum belongs to coastal-shallow marine sedimentary stratum and is distinctively different from transformation and rock movement of Dengfeng stratum. In addition, it has covered upon different stratums and different positions of rock groups ununiformly.
Songyang tectonic movement is unique, unrenewable and the only one of its kind in the world. Hence, Songyang is an important place to study evolution of the Earth.
Songyang Movement scenic site is located on waist of the Songshan Mt. and between Junjigong temple and Zhongyuanxinggong temple. It is an important component of Songshan tourism and provides valuable materials for geological research.
