World Geopark

Songshan was approved as a National Geopark in 2001, and in February 13, 2004, the United Nations Educational, scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) ranked the first world geological parks in. The Songshan world geological park has a total area of 450 square kilometers, and the main geological remains are geological (including structural) sections.

Songshan is on the southern margin of the North China continental tectonics, in the park range, since the continuous completely exposed 3 billion 500 million years too ancient, Mesozoic and Cenozoic strata of five geological history, ancient Paleozoic, stratigraphic sequence, clear, typical structure features, by the geological community known as the "five generation", is actually a complete history of earth stone book.

Songshan peak area jade walled mountain, Junji peak, Wuzhi ridge, Jianshan, is composed of quartz, and the tectonic movement caused by the rise in peak elevation of 400m, the vertical wall Maninsan 1000, steep handsome, Qifeng Valley throughout the region, forming a unique topography.

In the region clearly preserved in 2 billion 300 million years ago (named Songyang movement), 1 billion 850 million years (the movement) and 570 million years (three Shaolin movement) and formation of Precambrian crustal movement and global discontinuous formation angle unconformity interface remains, Zhongyue movement shaped the prototype of Songshan geological body.
